Jakarta – National Search and Rescue Firm (Basarnas) highlighted the team’s focus on discovering Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 airplane’s Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) throughout 8th day of extended operations after crashing into the Java Sea on Dec 9.
” We have not found the CVR. What has been in flow is just the ‘case, the wrapper,'” Basarnas Operations Director Brigadier General Rasman specified at the JICT 2 Pier, Tanjung Priok, here on Saturday.
The black box comprises 2 parts– CVR and Flight Data Recorder (FDR)– that record flight activities.
Leader of the Fleet Command (Koarmada) I Rear Admiral Abdul Rasyid earlier specified that part of the CVR– the battery and case– were discovered by a group of scuba divers on Friday (Jan 15).
However, the most fundamental part of the CVR– the memory unit– had yet to be restored.
Meanwhile, the Joint SAR Group found the FDR on January 12, 2021, in the waters of the Thousand Islands.
The joint SAR group will make the most of search for the CVR, victims, and particles of SJ-182 on the first day of extension of the search operation for three days, or until Monday (Jan 18).
The Joint SAR team has actually involved 360 divers to look for the 3 items.
For undersea searches, the Joint SAR group will prioritize searches in 4 sectors, with each area reaching 4 nautical miles (NM2), or a total of 16 nautical miles in the waters of Thousand Islands.
The SAR team has deployed four boats– KR Baruna Jaya, KRI Rigel, MGS Group, and KS Ara Kemekomarves– for undersea search.
An Underwater Metal Detector and Remote Operated Underwater Car (ROV) were deployed for conducting undersea search.
The SJ-182 carried 62 people on board when it crashed simply 4 minutes after removing from the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, on its method to Pontianak, West Kalimantan.
