Education Ministry: University Students to Get Covid-19 Vaccine Soon

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Education and Culture Ministry’s Director General of Higher Education, Nizam, ensured that university students will soon receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

“Referring to the President’s instruction, vaccines will be given to all levels of society for free and gradually, including for students,” said Nizam in a written statement, Monday, March 8, 2021.

The vaccination had actually been held for university students since the first stage of the national vaccination. However, it was limited to medical students who were carrying out educational practice at the Covid-19 Referral Hospital.

“The Education and Culture Ministry continues to coordinate with the Health Ministry to provide vaccination services for all in the education unit,” Nizam added.

Since January 2021, universities and higher education institutions have been allowed to apply face-to-face learning under predetermined health protocols based on a joint decree or SKB of Education and Culture Minister, Religious Affairs Minister, Health Minister, and Home Affairs Minister.

The policy was stipulated in the Circular of the Directorate General of Higher Education No. 6 of 2020 concerning the learning activity in the even semester of the 2020/2021 academic year.

Previously reporter, President Joko Widodo or Jokowi said the government was prioritizing educators to receive the Covid-19 vaccine so that schools and universities can resume normal activities in the second semester of 2021. Jokowi was targeting to have at least 5 million teachers and lecturers vaccinated by June.
