Home Affairs Ministry Warns 2 Regional Heads Committing Health Violations

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian had reportedly sent warnings to West Muna Regent Laode Muhammad Rajiun Tumada and Muna Regent LM. Rusman Emba for disregarding health protocols and neglecting physical distancing.

The written warning was sent under Letter No.337/4137/OTDA dated on August 14, 2020.

“The two regional leaders have caused a crowd to gather and this goes against the government’s attempt to break the chain of COVID-19 infections,” wrote Benni Irwan, Home Affairs Ministry’s spokesperson on Tuesday.

According to Benni, Laode had traveled to West Muna as a regional head candidate and was welcomed by thousands of cheering locals. Meanwhile, Rusman had traveled on foot together with residents of Kora Raha Harbor in a large convoy.

The Home Affairs Ministry deemed the event they both held had garnered large crowds of people which goes against Article 67 (1) of Law No.23/2014 on regional leaders that require leaders to always obey the law.

The ministry also expects the Southeast Sulawesi Governor to impose sanctions in the form of written warnings against the two leaders.

“And report back to the Home Affairs Ministry as soon as the opportunity arises,” the letter wrote.
