Indonesia Records 13 Cases of New Covid-19 Strain

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta The Covid-19 task force spokesperson Wiku Adisasmito on Tuesday announced that the team has detected at least 13 cases of infection from the new Covid-19 strain in Indonesia. These cases, he implied, are spread across Indonesian regions. 

“Based on the whole genome sequencing results as of May 3, we have found 13 cases of B.1.1.7 covid variant that originated from the United Kingdom across Jakarta, West Java, North Sumatra, Bali, South Sumatra, South Kalimantan, and North Kalimantan.” said the spokesperson on May 4. 

He also noted that there were cases of new viral strains from India (B.1.617) which two were found in Jakarta and the patients have been admitted to the Sulianti Saroso hospital, as well as the case of South Africa (B1351) strain which was found in Bali, where the sole sufferer had passed away.

The Covid-19 task force insists that the government has tightened the monitoring of visitors in borders and other entry points.
