Jakarta Preps Two More Covid-19 Referral Hospitals

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Jakarta provincial administration announced it is preparing two more Covid-19 referral hospitals in the region. The Health Agency’s Head of Disease Prevention and Control, Dwi Oktavia, said the two hospitals would only accommodate Covid-19 patients.

“There will be [another two] hospitals prepared for Covid-19 patients only,” said Dwi via a short message on Wednesday, September 2.

According to Dwi, the government planned to increase the capacity of the hospital beds in order to reduce the occupancy rate by up to 60 percent.

At present, the occupancy rate of isolation and ICU chambers in Covid-19 referral hospitals across the capital city has reached 81 percent and 74 percent, respectively. While there are a total of 4,045 isolation and 513 ICU beds.

“We want to increase the capacity of hospital beds to anticipate a surge in Covid-19 patients,” she said.

Dwi reiterated that the two regional-owned hospitals would add 40 ICU and 317 isolation beds. However, she stopped short of detailing the name of the hospitals.

Jakarta, she went on, is also exploring a partnership with 11 private hospitals to increase the capacity of ICU and isolation beds for Covid-19 patients. “We are still discussing the technical cooperation,” she said.
