President Jokowi: We are Under Health and Economic Crisis

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Thursday encourages people to understand that Indonesia is facing a crisis caused by the COVID-19 and calls for the public to not take it lightly.

“I would like to remind us all that we all share the same feeling, that we are all amidst a health and economic crisis. We must [have the same perception about this],” said Jokowi in his presidential visit to Surabaya, East Java, on Thursday, June 25.

The president asked every element of society to not take it lightly as it would endanger the government’s attempt to mitigate the pandemic.

Jokowi argues that it is shown by people’s reluctance to wear face masks, wash their hands after an activity, and continue to gather in crowds. He said the people must be reminded about this on a regular basis.

“Don’t let there be a perception that what we’re facing is normal. That is dangerous as this is not just happening in Indonesia but also in 215 countries,” said President Jokowi, who also noted that the possibility of an economic crisis had been noted by the IMF.
