The Trump administration will announce actions against France over its digital services tax however will postpone them while France delays tax collections from US innovation companies, United States Trade Agent Robert Lighthizer said on Thursday.
The actions, anticipated by market to be revealed on Friday, are connected to a United States Area 301 probe into France’s digital tax, which Washington states victimizes US tech firms such as Google, Facebook and Apple Inc.
The United States last month withdrew from multilateral talks to reach a global solution on digital services tax, pointing out an absence of development in the settlements.

One industry source said USTR could reveal an action on Friday reserving the right to enforce tariffs on around US$500 million worth of French items that were included in a larger list released in December, while postponing implementation.
USTR in December stated it could slap punitive responsibilities of as much as 100 percent on $2.4 billion in imports from France, consisting of goods such as Champagne, bags and cheese, after concluding the French tax would damage US tech companies.
The list targeted some items that were spared from 25 percent tariffs enforced by the United States over disputed European Union airplane subsidies, including sparkling wines, purses and makeup preparations.
