2019 was bleak year for human rights enforcement: Komnas HAM

Jakarta – The year 2019 was grim in terms of the enforcement of human rights, as it was a political year for the nation, according to Indonesia’s National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM).

” The year 2019 was a grim year for human rights enforcement,” Deputy Chair of Komnas HAM Hairansyah mentioned throughout an online interview on Tuesday.

The Commission noted that a number of polling officers (KPPS) had lost their lives following the April 2019 simultaneous governmental and legal elections, while 10 protesters passed away during the post-election rallies on Might 21-23 in Jakarta, whereas five protesters lost their lives, and 2 others got injured throughout rallies held to reject the revisions of the law on the Corruption Obliteration Commission (KPK) and the Criminal Code (KUHP) in a number of regions.
