Governor prompts agencies to hoist nationwide flag at half-mast

Samarinda, E Kalimantan – East Kalimantan Governor Isran Noor urged the provincial government and private institutions to fly Indonesia’s flag at half-mast for 3 days to honor 53 naval personnel, who passed away on task aboard submarine KRI Nanggala 402.

The guv made the call quickly after receiving details that all crew members of the submarine were pronounced dead, Head of the Public Relations Bureau at the Secretariat of the East Kalimantan Provincial Federal government M. Syafranuddin specified here on Monday.

Contact with the German-made submarine was lost while it was getting ready for a torpedo drill on Wednesday (April 24).

Indonesian Navy’s Chief of Personnel, Admiral Yudo Margono, validated that the submarine had actually sunk after several of its parts were retrieved throughout the search mission.
