According to Jokowi, the idea to establish the program followed his conference with a number of children from Papua in September 2019.
The Papuan youths consisted of Richard Mahose from Merauke, who finished from Cornell University; Joshua Gombo, who studied robotics in Washington D.C.; and Pascal Safari, who studied computer science in California, as well as other Papuan youths.
