Eid Homecoming: Ridwan Kamil Preps Random Covid-19 Antigen Tests

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil planned to hold random antigen tests at crowded places in an attempt to anticipate the spread of Covid-19 during Eid al-Fitr holidays or also known as the Eid homecoming.

“[We will take] random sampling of antigen tests at crowded places. In theory, [the number of cases] should be lowered. Hopefully, things we don’t want will not happen,” he said in Bandung, Thursday, March 18, 2021.

The former mayor of Bandung said that the central government’s decision to allow mass exodus will be good news. “That’s good news for all Indonesian people,” Ridwan added.

Ridwan supported the decision as long as its implementation will be under the health protocols of 5M because this year’s condition was much different than 2020.

“There is no antigen test in 2020, not much but only an antibody test which is inaccurate. There are now many PCR tests and antigen tests so the screening is more controlled and easier,” Ridwan said.

In addition, the vaccination program has been kicked off, and the country recorded a decrease in cases due to the enforcement of the community activity restrictions or PPKM, Ridwan informed.

Ridwan Kamil said that the implementation of Eid homecoming must be under the strict health protocols of 5M. “We support it so that people will be happy as they can go back home, but still apply 5M,” Ridwan said.
