Erick Thohir Addresses Vaccine Program and Anti-vaccine People

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir in an online seminar on Tuesday, Dec. 1, said the government cannot force its national COVID-19 vaccination program to those who are against vaccinations in general.

The Minister – who is also the chief executive of the national committee on COVID-19 handling and economic recovery – cited a recent survey that showed 66 percent of Indonesians believe in vaccinations and are willing to be vaccinated for COVID-19.

“However, there is also the 16 percent that does not want to be vaccinated,” said Erick Thohir. “We couldn’t force it upon them.”

In an attempt to further convince the vaccine-deniers, Erick said Indonesia’s vaccines will be bought under strict requirements that abide by the rules of the World Health Organization (WHO) and strict clinical tests.

To cover almost every aspect, Erick Thohir said the government is working alongside the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM), and every regulatory body that could help control the vaccine’s quality.
