Indonesia Adds Quarantine Wards to Anticipate Omicron

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Indonesian government will add two quarantine accommodations for people returning from overseas. They are the Daan Mogot Apartment in West Jakarta, and the Jagakarsa Education Quality Assurance Institution (LPMP) guest house in West Jakarta .

The National Covid-19 Task Force 19, Wiku Adisasmito, said the decision to add quarantine facilities was made to anticipate imported cases of the Omicron variant.

“The government has also prepared a special route for mobilizing international travellers, from when they board off the plane until they reach the quarantine hotels, to prevent the potential of outbreaks as much as possible,” Wiku said in a press conference, Thursday, December 23.

To date, Indonesia has detected eight Covid-19 cases of the Omicron variant. Authorities said they are all imported cases infecting people returning from overseas by air.

The Omicron cases were detected during quarantine. That’s why the government is tightening gateways, to prevent as many transmissions as possible.

The government also added quarantine facilities near arrival gates and monitors health screening flow to ensure smooth process and no long queues.

“Again, the government urges people not to travel abroad unless it is really urgent. This is for the safety of us all,” he said.
