Indonesia’s COVID-19 Cases Continue to Rise; 5,862 New Infections Found Today

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Indonesia continued to record a high number of new COVID-19 cases as the government pushed for the mass vaccination program. The COVID-19 handling task force reported 5,862 new infections over the last 24 hours as of Friday, May 28.

Based on the Health Ministry data until 12: 00 Western Indonesian Time (WIB), the number of new positive cases was obtained from the results of virus tests on 110,682 specimens. Thus, the country’s total caseload as of today reached 1,803,361 since the positive case was first detected in early March last year.

The data also noted that West Java contributed the highest number of new cases with 1,206 infections, followed by Central Java with 668 cases, Jakarta with 602 cases, and Riau with 503 cases.

The number of patients who recovered from the disease, however, also increased by 5,370, bringing the total to 1,654,557 cases. Meanwhile, the task force recorded that the number of death cases related to COVID-19 rose by 193. This brings the total death cases to 50,100.

The government is still monitoring 103,383 COVID-19 suspects and examined today 110,683 specimens related to the coronavirus.
