Jakarta to Build Prophet History Museum on Ancol Reclaimed Island

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Jakarta Secretary Saefullah confirmed that the city administration planned to establish an international historical museum of Prophet Muhammad and Islamic civilization on the reclamation island in Ancol, North Jakarta.

“The groundbreaking takes place in February 2020,” said Saefullah in an online press conference on Friday, July 3.

The reclamation project is stipulated in the Gubernatorial Decree (Kepgub) No. 237/2020 on the permit for the land expansion of the Dunia Fantasi or Dufan recreation area by 35 hectares and East Ancol Dream Park by 120 hectares. The policy was inked by Governor Anies Baswedan on February 24, 2020.

Saefullah elaborated that the museum would be built on some of the 20-hectare reclaimed lands that have been formed in East Ancol. The areas will be managed by the government and the process of the land certificate was still afoot at the National Land Agency (BPN).

“Children’s playgrounds will be opened there, too,” he added.

The Ancol reclamation project is a collaboration of the Jakarta administration and PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol in a program of the Jakarta Emergency Dredging Initiative (JEDI), a project of flood mitigation and dumping sites.
