KPI, Police Questioned By Komnas HAM Regarding Sexual Harassment Case

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has summoned the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) and the Central Jakarta police related to the bullying and sexual harassment case against a KPI employee.

“The KPI is currently being requested for statements,” Komnas HAM commissioner Beka Ulung Hapsara told Tempo.

KPI representatives in the questioning are KPI deputy Mulyo Hadi and KPI head of secretariat. The commission has scheduled another session later in the afternoon with representatives of the Central Jakarta Police.

Beka said Komnas HAM has three aspects that will be focused upon; obtaining the general understanding of KPI’s version towards the incident, their responses, steps, and plans conducted by the KPI, and clarifying the victim’s story about the police treatment.

A chain message circulated via WhatsApp messaging app about the alleged sexual harassment that occurred at the Central KPI. In the message, the victim who claimed to be MS had even filed reports to the police regarding the assaults.

Based on the message, the victim admitted that he had been bullied since 2011, or since signing to work with KPI, by some of his seniors. MS had even revealed one name of the perpetrators. He said the incident peaked in 2015 when he was sexually assaulted, leaving him severely traumatized.
