Manpower Minister Calls on ASEAN to Mitigate COVID-19 Impact on Women Workers

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah has appealed to all ASEAN countries and partners to share their experiences and initiatives in mitigating the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly pertaining to women workers.

ASEAN countries are also called on to boost cooperation so as to ramp up their competitiveness, security and dexterity to gear up for future work circumstances—given the everlasting potential of pandemics, economic crises, and natural disasters.

“I would like to invite the honorable participants to actively taking part in discussions and acquiring references on how to improve the roles of and security for women in the workforce in engaging in economic activities and the workforce market during the pandemic,” she said on Thursday, August 26, 2021.

The minister made the statement when delivering her speech to open the ASEAN regional workshop on the improvement of roles of and security for women in the workforce to support economic recovery during the pandemic.   

Ida was adamant that all of the ASEAN countries and external parties were on the same page in promoting collective strategies and collaborations to mitigate the pandemic, particularly in the manpower sector, to revive and redevelop social life.

“I hope this workshop can encourage more activities and cooperation that contribute to the implementation of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) on gender equality and women’s empowerment.
