Police, Attorney General’s Office to Investigate Fire Cause: Mahfud Md

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law, and Human Rights Mahfud Md said the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) and the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) had formed a joint post to investigate the cause of the fire that broke at the AGO main building.

According to him, the head of Bareskrim and the Junior Attorney General for General Crimes (Jampidum) initiated the post.

“A joint post has been now established by the Bareskrim and Jampidum for investigation purposes,” Mahfud said via an online press conference on Sunday, August 23.

Mahfud reiterated they had already held a meeting and checked the feasibility of the building construction. The forensic laboratory team, he added, had also investigated the scene of the incident.

The fire at the AGO on Jalan Sultan Hasanudin Dalam No. 1, Kramat Pela, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta was reported to break out on Saturday evening, August 22, at around 7: 10 pm local times.

Mahfud Md asked the public to not speculate about the cause of the blaze, but rather wait for the results of the police investigation. “To gain the cause of the fire, we have to wait for an investigation from the police,” he remarked.
