Police Summon Ridwan Kamil over Rizieq Shihab’s Big Events

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The West Java Regional Police were set to question West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil on Friday, November 20, 2020. Ridwan was scheduled to issue a clarification regarding Rizieq Shihab’s crowded events to the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) investigators in Awaludin Jamin Building, South Jakarta.

The National Police spokesperson Insp. Gen. Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono confirmed the news. “It’s true,” said Argo on Wednesday, November 18, 2020.

West Java Police General Crime Sub-Directorate I was investigating alleged violations of the Covid-19 health protocol following the large crowds that welcomed Rizieq Shihab in an event in Megamendung, Bogor.

In the summon letter, the police noted that many people did not comply with the predetermined health protocol against Covid-19 thus causing potential of virus transmission. The crowds violated Article 14(1) of Law No. 4/1984 on the outbreak of infectious disease and Article 93 of Law No. 6/2018 on health quarantine. “And or Article 212, 214, 216, and or 218 of the Criminal Code.”

As widely reported, Rizieq visited a boarding school in Megamendung, Bogor, on Friday, November 13, after attending a commemoration event of Prophet Muhammad’s birthday (Maulid Nabi) in Tebet, South Jakarta. A day after, the FPI leader held a wedding reception for his daughter and Maulid Nabi in Petamburan, Central Jakarta. These three events attracted a large crowd. 

The Metro Jaya Police had earlier summoned Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to seek clarification regarding the alleged violation of the health protocol at Rizieq Shihab’s big events.
