PSI Seeks Harder Punishments for Pilkada Health Protocol Violators

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) has urged the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) to impose firm punishments on regional head candidates who violated the COVID-19 health protocols during the 2020 regional head elections (Pilkada).

“Public health and safety remain the utmost priority for PSI. Because the 2020 Pilkada cannot be postponed, then strict enforcement of health protocols can’t be bargained with anymore. Disqualify candidates if necessary,” wrote the chair of the PSI’s central executive board, Isyana Bagus Oka, in a statement on September 25.

She reiterated that light punishments for candidates who violated the health protocols would be ineffective, and that the General Elections Commission (KPU) must create a calculated and specific set of rules to prevent the protocols from being violated.

As for PSI themselves, Isyana claimed that the party would punish any of its members who violated pandemic restrictions and asserted that this warning had been announced to party members nationwide.
