Jakarta Extends PSBB Following Resurgence of COVID-19 Cases

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta Head of the Jakarta Health Agency, Widyastuti, on Thursday says the capital city is yet to be safe from COVID-19 infection and therefore, the large-scale social restriction or PSBB will be extended.

“Jakarta is not safe yet. We must continue to be on guard and implement [an extended] PSBB,” said Widyastuti on September 24. During the virtual discussion, she also warned Jakartans to increase their discipline for the health protocols.

In early September, active COVID-19 cases hovered from 9,000-10,000 cases. Nearing the end of September, it will likely exceed the number and will record around 13,000 cases if the situation continues at this rate. The only good news amidst the rising infection rate is that the city recorded a 77 percent recovery rate.

As of Thursday, September 24, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan announced the extension of the capital city’s large-scale social restriction or PSBB which will last until October 11, 2020.
