Jokowi Grateful for ‘Significant Drop’ in Covid-19 Cases

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo claimed a number of indicators show that Indonesia’s Covid-19 cases are starting to fall, which he said is something to be grateful about.

“We should be grateful as the number of cases today suggest that the pandemic in West Java is dropping, and also in Jakarta, as I constantly monitor the occupancy ratio numbers every morning and every night,” he said during the inauguration of Pertamina modular hospital on August 6.

According to the president, the declining bed occupancy is evident at the Wisma Atlet emergency hospital in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta. The facility recorded 90 percent bed occupancy 6-8 weeks prior. Now, it has significantly went down to 25 percent.

Despite many indicators showing improvements in Indonesia’s pandemic mitigation, Jokowi insisted that the country must remain cautious and prepared for any possible scenarios in the future. The president thanked the state-energy firm for preparing the modular hospital which is equipped with 305 ICU and CCU beds.
